About UPC-E
UPC-E is a zero-suppressed 6-digit form of UPC-A designed for small items such as cosmetics and confectionery. A decoder expands it back to the full 12-digit UPC-A value.
Valid input
- Exactly 6 data digits plus a check digit. Only valid when the corresponding UPC-A value contains compressible zero patterns - arbitrary 6-digit strings will not round-trip.
- Number system must be 0 or 1.
- Let the generator derive UPC-E from a UPC-A value to avoid invalid compression.
