About EAN-5 (5 digit addon)

EAN-5 is a 5-digit add-on placed to the right of an EAN-13 or ISBN barcode. It is primarily used to encode the price of magazines, paperbacks, and books.

What a valid EAN-5 (5 digit addon) looks like

  • Exactly 5 digits, numeric only. Used as a price add-on.
  • For US list prices, the first digit signals currency (5 = USD, 6 = GBP, etc). The remaining four digits are the price in the base unit.
  • The add-on is placed immediately to the right of an EAN-13 or ISBN symbol.
