About PDF417
PDF417 (ISO/IEC 15438) is a stacked linear barcode that encodes up to 1,850 alphanumeric characters. It is used on boarding passes, ID cards, and the driver's licences of many US states.
Valid input
- 3 to 90 rows and 1 to 30 data columns. The symbol grows in whichever dimension you constrain less.
- Supports 8 error correction levels (0-8). Level 5 is typical; use 6-8 for damaged or curved surfaces.
- Quiet zone: at least 2 module widths on every side.
- Row height should be at least 3 times the module width, otherwise scanners struggle with row sync.
